Some things (and people) never change. Thank God.

Alice Russell sings in the choir at Dromore Non-Subscribing Presbyterian Church
Alice Russell
Alice Russell is one of those lovely ladies who never seems to change - gentle, kind, thoughtful, respectful. She is a faithful member of the church choir and from my pew I can admire her contribution to church services..

Having said all that, she's not easy to photograph. I think in all the time I've known her I've only managed to photograph her now, twice - and I had to practically chase her round the church to capture this one!

Still, I'm so glad she sat for me on this occasion and I hope Alice herself loves this image as much as I do and as much as, I'm sure, you will too.

A person who inspires confidence is one who carries a fine attitude. Wholesome attitude radiates trust, and trust is that quality of life that is fundamental in dependability, and dependability is more to be desired than a brilliant mind. Joseph Quinney Jr

Sunday School Friends (with sweets!)

Sunday School children at Dromore Non-Subscribing Presbyterian Church
Rachael and Abigail - no sweets in the photograph!
We have a very active Sunday School - which my own two boys attended through to Bible Class. We are grateful to our dedicated team of teachers and leaders, under Helen Dickson (Superintendent) who faithfully guide our young people each Sunday.

Rachael and Abigail live quite far apart and attend different schools, so they don't see each other during the week but are great friends on a Sunday in church. I always look forward to seeing them - just across from me - chatting and sharing sweets in church. Not that they share any with me!

Joe Martin (Senior) and his son Joe Martin at Dromore NSP Church
Ernie Martin and his son, Joe, sing in the church choir. Joe leans on his son’s arm as they make their way each Sunday to the choir’s position just below the pulpit and each Sunday as he passes my pew he - sort of double taps the pew door on his way. If the door is slightly ajar, he’ll close it.

It’s like a “pay attention, the service is starting now!” sort of signal for me and, as simple as it is, it’s another little tradition that I look forward to.

You can read more about Ernie in the post, Hands of the Carpenter.

Congregation at Dromore Non-Subscribing Presbyterian Church
Sidney Bailey was christened in the church 91 years ago and both he and his wife, Vera, still look forward to Sunday services - and always have a smile on their faces!

They like to arrive early and I always receive a really warm welcome from them in the church car park - when I am early; or as I open the church door - when I'm not so early!

Jean and Dora
One of the first things I do when I go through the door of church is turn to see and be welcomed by these two old friends. If you're not feeling the best, they are guaranteed to have you smiling in no time!

The Crookshanks family has a long history of involvement in our church
There's never a dull moment when Joanne Moore, Wendy Best and their Uncle Dermot Crookshanks are around - there's an awful lot of craic and laughter in that pew!

David and Joan Black
I sit diagonally opposite David and I think he must be the most relaxed member of the congregation. This is exactly how he sits during the service and I love watching his laid-back style - not to mention a bit of a yarn after the service.

Joan, who is well known to generations of children who attended Dromore Central Primary School, sings in the choir. Both have given a lifetime of energy and service to the church and community.
