Rachael and Abigail live quite far apart and attend different schools, so they don't see each other during the week but are great friends on a Sunday in church. I always look forward to seeing them - just across from me - chatting and sharing sweets in church. Not that they share any with me!
We have a very active Sunday School - which my own two boys attended through to Bible Class. We are grateful to our dedicated team of teachers and leaders, under Helen Dickson (Superintendent) who faithfully guide our young people each Sunday.

Ernie Martin and his son, Joe, sing in the church choir. Joe leans on his son’s arm as they make their way each Sunday to the choir’s position just below the pulpit and each Sunday as he passes my pew he - sort of double taps the pew door on his way. If the door is slightly ajar, he’ll close it.
It’s like a “pay attention, the service is starting now!” sort of signal for me and, as simple as it is, it’s another little tradition that I look forward to. You can read more about Ernie in the post, Hands of the Carpenter. Money can buy so many things that those who have it can so easily forget the things it cannot buy - it's a good thing to check up, every once in a while, that you haven't lost the things money can't buy.
Rev Mac took Luke 12: 16-20 as his text: 16 And he told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. 17 He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’ 18 “Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. 19 And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”’ 20 “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’ (Luke 12: 16-20 ) Sidney Bailey was christened in the church 91 years ago and both he and his wife, Vera, still look forward to Sunday services - and always have a smile on their faces!
They like to arrive early and I always receive a really warm welcome from them in the church car park - when I am early; or as I open the church door - when I'm not so early! |
