Alister Bell at Dromore Non-Subscribing Presbyterian Church
Alister Bell was the preacher on Sunday past and his call to worship was from Psalm 95: 6,7

“Come, let us worship and bow down. Let us kneel before the LORD our maker, for he is our God. We are the people he watches over, the flock under his care. If only you would listen to his voice today!”

The opening hymn was, Majesty, worship His majesty.

Alister told the story of the minister who, when asked how his flock was, replied, “I don’t have one; they think for themselves.

He encouraged the congregation to continue the Non-Subscribing tradition of liberal, free thinking - to challenge, question and interpret, in a respectful way.

Alister quoted M-People singer Heather Small and her 2000 hit which reached No.16 in the UK Singles Chart:

“Still so many answers I don't know
Realize that to question is how we grow”

You have to work it out for yourself. Doing the right thing for the wrong reasons doesn’t make it right.
To question is to grow.

Quarterly meeting of the Women's League of the Non-Subscribing Presbyterian Church of Ireland
Quarterly meeting of the Women's League
On Saturday Afternoon 28th January Sonya Russell, Helen Kinghan and Marie Holmes attended the Service and meeting in our Cairncastle Church.

This special service, led by Rev Lena Cockcroft, was the start of celebrations to mark the 90th anniversary of the founding in 1927 of the Ulster District of the Women’s League.

Nine candles were lit commemorating the nine decades of work and worship of the League. The 48 members attending rededicated themselves, as Liberal Christian Women, to the ideals of the League:

companionship
prayerful and practical witness
charitable giving and, most importantly,
hospitality to all those who wish to join with us.
Nine decades of work and worship, the Women's League of the Non-Subscribing Presbyterian Church of Ireland
Nine decades of work and worship - the Women's League
All present were very pleased that our Moderator, Rt. Rev Chris Wilson and his wife joined us for this special occasion. The Moderator was most complimentary of the work and witness carried out by the women of our Churches.

It's a good offer!

Rev Dr Will Patterson in the pulpit at Dromore NSP Church
Rev Patterson spoke about the promises made by God to Abraham
Rev Dr Will Patterson encouraged the congregation not to avoid the prompting of God in our minds and lives. Abraham in Genesis Chapter 2, he said, was prompted by God to have faith, to "take a chance" and promised in return to:
- that he would be blessed, and
- be made a blessing to other people.
And God holds out these same promises to us.

A "blessing" in the bible is used to express the happiest, most perfect state of life; to face any odeal without fear; not to be anxious for tomorrow. Such a way of life cannot be attained ourselves nor can it be received from other people; it is the gift of a power greater than ourselves and can only come from God.

We can have faith and rely of God's promise to bless us
- and on His second promise - the desire that we should be a blessing to other people.

Don't avoid God's prompting but have faith is HIs promise
- It's too good an offer to refuse!

"Serve the Lord with gladness" - Rev Dr Will Patterson (7 February 2016)
